Calling All Bookworms!!!

Did the title catch your eye?
So, I'm on the lookout for good historical fiction or mysteries. Maybe you can help me? I'm trying to get in the habit of reading more. I got a novel for Christmas and I'm still not done with it (Yes, it's March :-) So.... that's why I'm on the lookout for some new and exciting books. I really like historical fiction. Do you have any suggestions? What books have you read lately? What did you like/dislike about them? Comment and tell me!

I read the Red Rock Mystery Series. Its christian based and it has like 2 or 3 mysterys at a time. One book can be very finger nail biting so hopefully you don't get scared very easily with books. =D

My favorite historical novel is "Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway"...Jane Austen is great as well.

Happy Reading!

Hey, I will check that book out! Thanks so much for telling me about it. It's weird, so many people talk about the Jane Austen books, yet I've never actually read one! Next time I go to he library, I am SO picking out one :-D

Alright, I know exactly where you need to go:

Lamplighters are AMAZING books! I can't even stress how much I love them. They are books that were written back in the day, and they print them again with beautiful covers :) They are ALL Christian, and have fabulous morals behind every story. A favorite of mine is A Peep Behind The Scenes. They are not in many libraries, but WELL worth purchasing!
If you are interested, I'll give you a list of the books I have read from them and my opinions :) Just leave a comment on my blog and I'll get back with you! :))

Here's my loaded list. :) All of them are decent, of course.

-I love the Dear America books. They are (rather short) "diaries" of girls from different time periods. There are two slave-time stories, a Civil War story, an American Revolution story, the story of an Irish girl that immigrates to America, the story of a girl that is taken captive by Indians, and the story of a girl who moves to America to be married to a coal miner (although that one is a bit more...grown up. I don't care for that one much.) I believe there is also one on that is set on the Titanic. These books have different authors.

-Revolution is Not a Dinner Party by Ying Chang Compestine. This is a novel, set in China's Cultural Revolution. Love this book! It may have one bad word, but I can't remember for sure. It's a great book, and being the China-lover I am, I think it's just perfect. :)

-Mao's Last Dancer. This is actually a true story, but it is so interesting. Li Cunxin was brought up in an extremely poor village and then out of nowhere was picked from his school to attend the Beijing Dance Academy hundreds of miles away from his home village. He became a world-famous dancer and came to the states. It's not historical fiction, but it's a great story. It's by Li Cunxin.

-Shadow Spinner by Susan Fletcher. I could read this book over and over and over again!

-Homesick by Jean Fritz. Another non-fiction book, but still a great story!

That's all I can think of for now. Have fun reading! :)

God bless you!
Joy :D
