Golfing Days are Here Again

 

So, I am a sport lover.

Yes, I love swimming, baseball, soccer, and even volleyball.  My favorite sport is definitely football. I like to play it with friends, and I like to watch it!

But every spring, I usually get out my brother's golf clubs, grab a ball, and play a little golf in the backyard. I pretend that I know what I'm doing... When in reality, I don't. Nope, I really don't.

Sure, I know the game. I watch it! I know that a birdie is good, and and eagle is even better.

The other day, the weather was just splendid! It was a little nippy, with a slight breeze. Perfect golfing weather! I got a ball (a plastic one, so I wouldn't smash any windows) and set it up on some high grass.

To look professional,  I even put on my brother's golf glove. So, I lined up and took a nice full swing. Wish! I looked down at the ground, and to my dismay, the ball was still there.

Now don't laugh at me, 'cause I eventually hit the ball. 50 tries later.

When I did miss, however, I would turn to my brother and say, "That was a practice shot." And when I kept on missing, he looked at me and smiled. "I know, I know, that was a practice shot."

So, my dad  happened to be in the yard at the time, and saw me struggling to hit this thing. He gave me some pointers.

"Don't look down the fairway! You have to keep your eye on the ball the whole time. It's gonna go where it goes, no matter if you look at it or not," my dad said. I looked at the ball. And I hit it. It wobbled a few feet away. Well, I looked!

"Remember, hit down. It's the angle of the club that makes it go." He showed me how it worked. So, once again, I took a swing. Whoosh! It sailed down the yard!! Just thinking "Down" made my ball fly away!

"I should have been a golf instructor," My dad said, walking away. 

Except for making a few deep divots, it was a pretty successful afternoon.
